Pollen in Madrid: street map, calendar and trees

Madrid publishes an open inventory of nearly 793,000 geolocated trees, including their species. Polen-tracker matches this catalogue with flowering cycles to create a street- and area-level pollen map instead of one reading for the whole city.

A street-level pollen map

Reports usually provide one level for all of Madrid. Tree pollen is local, however, and the mix of species changes between the centre, avenues and parks. Every point on the map is a catalogued tree, while the heat map summarises the density of flowering species that affect you.

Which trees pollinate in Madrid, and when

The main taxa in Madrid's urban-tree inventory, with their pollen season and relative allergenicity:

TreePollen seasonAllergenicity
London planeMarch–AprilVery high
Olive and ashApril–JuneVery high
Cypress familyDecember–MarchHigh
Holm oak and oakApril–MayMedium
Pine and cedarMarch–MayLow
Grasses (not trees)May–JulyVery high

Grasses are a dominant allergen on the central plateau but are not trees. They appear in the calendar, although they are not yet included in the map or index.

Local levels and weather

Polen-tracker combines flowering-tree density with current weather. Dry winds and heat raise the level; rain and high humidity lower it. The home screen provides today's area ranking and a personal index recalculated daily.

Advice for high-pollen days

  • Ventilate early in the morning or after rain.
  • Wear sunglasses and, during strong peaks, a mask outdoors.
  • Do not dry laundry outside and shower when you return home.
  • Check the map before exercising outdoors.

Try it with your city

Polen-tracker is free, requires no account and works on mobile. Open the map or calendar and filter by the trees that affect you.

Medical notice. Polen-tracker is an information tool, not a medical device or diagnostic product. Its index is an estimate based on urban trees, phenology and weather —not a direct measurement of airborne pollen— and may not match your symptoms. Consult an allergy specialist before changing any treatment.
